Color Forward. Culture Inspired. Downtown Activated.

Overview

La Loba is a 2,000-square-foot boutique Mexican restaurant located within the Edmond Railyard development, a growing hub of local dining and community activity.

Led by Chef Robert Black and Lori Black (take a look at their story), longtime supporters of downtown Edmond, La Loba was envisioned as more than a restaurant. It was meant to be a vibrant addition to the district, a place that contributes to the momentum and identity of the Railyard while offering a distinctive dining experience.

AMMP Studio partnered with the owners to transform the tenant space into a colorful, immersive restaurant environment that reflects the brand’s personality and Chef Robert’s culinary vision. The result is a space that feels playful yet refined, expressive yet intentional.

Who is La Loba?

La Loba is a boutique Mexican restaurant created by Chef Robert Black and Lori Black, both deeply invested in downtown Edmond’s growth and vitality.

The Blacks are known for their support of local development and their belief in maintaining an active, energized downtown. La Loba represents that commitment, bringing culture, flavor, and design-forward hospitality to the Edmond Railyard.

The restaurant blends culinary creativity with a carefully crafted interior atmosphere that feels welcoming, expressive, and distinctly its own.

The Challenge

Tenant improvement projects within active developments require precision.

La Loba’s space was modest in scale (just 2,000 square feet), yet the expectations for impact were high. The restaurant needed to feel immersive and memorable while working within a constrained footprint and budget.

The design challenge included:

Maximizing atmosphere within limited square footage

Creating a strong brand identity through interior design

Working within tenant improvement constraints

Delivering high visual impact on a modest budget

Contributing meaningfully to the overall Railyard development

The owners wanted the space to feel vibrant and energetic but still elevated and cohesive. It needed to feel boutique, not themed. Energetic, not chaotic.

Achieving that balance required strategic design decisions at every level.

The Strategic Approach

Translating Brand Into Space

From the beginning, AMMP Studio worked closely with Chef Robert and Lori to align interior design with the restaurant’s branding.

Rather than designing independently from the brand, the team ensured that:

  • Color palette decisions reinforced brand identity
  • Architectural features supported the restaurant’s personality
  • Lighting contributed to the mood and atmosphere
  • Material selections elevated the experience without inflating cost

The result is a cohesive environment where brand and space feel inseparable.

Arches, Lighting, & Color

One of the defining architectural gestures in La Loba is the use of arches, which softens the space and introduces a sense of rhythm and intimacy.

Lighting plays a central role in shaping the restaurant’s energy. Carefully selected fixtures create warmth and dimension, enhancing both daytime and evening dining experiences.

The interior relies on:

  • A fun, unique color palette
  • Intentional architectural framing
  • Layered lighting strategies
  • Texture-driven finishes

Each element works together to create an environment that feels curated rather than accidental.

Tying in Local Art

To further amplify the restaurant’s identity, the La Loba team invited artist Hayley Owen to create a custom mural within the space.

The mural acts as both a visual anchor and a storytelling device, adding to the personality we created with the team and reinforcing La Loba’s boutique feel.

While we didn’t work with her directly, seeing Hayley’s mural significantly elevates the space’s memorability.

Doing More with Less

La Loba was a low-budget project with high expectations.

Design decisions focused on maximizing impact without unnecessary cost. Rather than relying on expensive materials or oversized gestures, our team prioritized:

  • Strategic color placement
  • Architectural moments that define space
  • Lighting as atmosphere-builder
  • Smart material selection

The result is a space that feels elevated and intentional despite budget constraints, demonstrating that thoughtful design often matters more than scale.

This project reflects our ability to design hospitality environments that are both resource-conscious and design-forward. It showcases how interior architecture, lighting, color, and art can transform a modest tenant space into a memorable destination.

Small in size. Strong in personality. Designed with intention.
