Overview

Superior Construction is a utilities contractor specializing in underground infrastructure. Their work happens below the surface, installing and maintaining essential systems that keep cities running.

As the company continued to grow, it became clear their facilities needed to grow with them.

Superior required a centralized headquarters that could support both day-to-day field operations and executive leadership under one cohesive campus. The new development in Oklahoma City consolidates corporate offices and heavy equipment operations into a purpose-built environment designed specifically for how the company works.

AMMP Studio was invited to design a new 22,800-square-foot facility that brings together office, industrial, training, and maintenance functions, all tailored to Superior’s operational realities.

Who is Superior Construction?

Superior Construction is a utilities contractor focused on underground infrastructure, including boring operations and heavy equipment work. Their crews manage complex field conditions daily, relying on specialized machinery, disciplined coordination, and technical precision.

Unlike many office-based organizations, Superior’s core operations revolve around equipment, field crews, and maintenance logistics. The new headquarters needed to reflect that reality, not just in layout, but in identity.

This facility would serve as:

  • A maintenance hub for heavy machinery
  • A centralized administrative headquarters
  • A training environment for workforce development
  • A long-term investment in operational stability

The Challenge

Superior Construction’s growth created new demands.

The company needed a space that could:

House executive leadership and administrative teams

Provide a dedicated diesel shop for maintenance of boring machines and semi-trucks

Support ongoing employee education and training

Incorporate storm shelter requirements for safety

Reflect the professionalism of a growing commercial contractor

Designing industrial and office components on the same site requires careful planning. The diesel shop needed clear spans, circulation for heavy equipment, and durable materials suited for maintenance operations. The corporate office required a professional environment with defined leadership spaces, meeting rooms, and employee support areas.

This project also involved full site planning to accommodate equipment circulation, parking, and operational separation between administrative and industrial zones.

Additionally, because this was a referral from a contractor, expectations were high from the beginning. The partnership required collaboration, clarity, and a design process that aligned with construction realities.

The Strategic Approach

Designing for How They Actually Work

Superior Construction does not operate like a traditional office-based company. Their field crews rely on heavy machinery and mechanical systems that require routine maintenance.

The 10,800-square-foot diesel shop was designed specifically to support:

  • Maintenance of boring machines
  • Service for semi-trucks and large equipment
  • Operational flow for vehicle movement
  • Durable, industrial-grade finishes

Clear circulation and accessibility were prioritized to ensure daily operations would remain efficient and safe.

Rather than separating office and industrial functions, the design integrates them intentionally on the same campus, reinforcing operational unity while maintaining functional boundaries.

Elevating the Corporate Experience

The 12,000-square-foot two-story office building introduces a new level of corporate presence for Superior Construction.

Key components include:

  • A dedicated corporate suite
  • Executive offices and administrative workspaces
  • Conference rooms for client and internal meetings
  • An employee education and training room
  • Integrated storm shelter for safety and code compliance

The inclusion of an education room reflects Superior Construction’s investment in workforce development. Training is not treated as an afterthought. It is embedded into the architecture itself.

The corporate suite establishes a professional environment where leadership can meet clients, plan projects, and guide company growth.

Integrated Site Planning

Beyond the buildings themselves, the site required thoughtful planning.

Heavy equipment operations demand space for maneuvering, parking, maintenance access, and safety separation. AMMP Studio coordinated the site layout to ensure:

  • Clear separation between office visitors and industrial operations
  • Logical circulation patterns for trucks and equipment
  • Efficient access points
  • Long-term scalability

Designing the campus as a cohesive whole ensures the facility functions smoothly as a unified operational headquarters rather than a collection of disconnected structures.

Contractor Collaboration

This project came through a contractor referral, reinforcing our collaborative reputation within the construction community.

Working with Clyde Riggs Construction, we approached the project with practical awareness of buildability, material durability, and cost-conscious decision-making.

By aligning architectural design with construction expertise early in the process, the project moved forward with reduced friction and increased clarity.

Scope of Work

AMMP Studio provided comprehensive services, including:

This integrated design approach ensures that the final facility supports both corporate leadership and field operations seamlessly.

The Outcome

Infrastructure for Growth

Once complete, the Superior Construction headquarters will provide:

For a utilities contractor whose work happens underground, this new campus will bring clarity and stability above ground.

The facility reflects the company’s identity: disciplined, hardworking, and focused on infrastructure excellence.

By consolidating operations and leadership into a single, cohesive campus, Superior Construction is positioning itself for long-term growth in Oklahoma’s competitive construction landscape.

This project represents a shift from piecemeal facilities to intentional infrastructure.

For our team, this project highlights our ability to design across sectors, blending industrial function, corporate identity, and site strategy into a cohesive solution.

It demonstrates expertise not only in architecture and interior design, but in understanding how commercial and industrial businesses truly operate.

Built for the field. Designed for the future.
